“I’m so uncoordinated I couldn’t possibly do a boxing workout!” Sometimes getting out of your comfort zone is just what you need. The new 10 Rounds Fitness Program is as much a mental workout as it is physical. To help you feel confident and get the most out of the program I’ve put together a list of 10 tips for 10 Rounds.
What is 10 Rounds
10 Rounds is Beachbody’s first-ever boxing program designed to help you get lean & mean in just 6 weeks. Each week is made up of 3 days of boxing training and 2 days of weightlifting

10 Tips for Starting 10 Rounds
If you’re looking to get the most out of 10 Rounds and build your confidence you’ll want to follow these 10 tips.
1. Start With The Basics
Do the Boxing Basics Video first before you begin the program. It will help you learn the moves and cues. You’ll also begin to develop muscle memory that will help you feel more confident with the moves.
2. Turn Your Back/Use a Mirror or the Mirrored Option
Turn your back to the tv or whatever screen you’re doing the video on.
In most workout videos the instructor and cast mirrors you. So when they say right arm, they’re really using their left so you’re moving in the same direction as them.
In the 10 Rounds video you use your dominant stance pretty much the whole time and so does the cast. So if you’re a righty (Orthodox stance), turning your back will allow you to use the same arm as the cast. If you’re Southpaw (lefty) you can stay facing the tv and the cast will be mirroring you.
If looking over your shoulder feels awkward then face your tv or other screen at a mirror. Face the mirror and do the program that way. This will allow you to stay in the same direction of the cast if you’re a righty.
It’s an old trick I learned when I taught dance camps and we learned some of our routines via video (VHS back in the day 🙂 ).
They’ve now added “Mirrored” Options so the screen is flipped and you can face the screen and being using the same arms & legs!
3. Stop & Watch
Remember you have the power of the rewind button. If you’re not getting something stop and watch the moves. Then rewind and get back in on the action.
4. There are only 6 Punches
Don’t feel overwhelmed. Revisit #1 and learn the basics. There are only 6 different punches. Joel gives each one a number 1-6. Learn those cues so you can keep up as he calls them out.
- Jab
- Cross
- Front Hook
- Rear Hook
- Front Uppercut
- Rear Uppercut
5. Breakdown Arms & Footwork
If you’re having trouble getting the arms and footwork together press the pause button. Practice the arm combination. Then practice the footwork. Then practice them together. Breaking it down will help you get a better feel for the moves.
6. Track Your Weights
To help push yourself even more be sure to track your weights on lift days. Knowing what weights you used last will help you bump your weights up each week and achieve even better results. You can download my 10 Rounds Weight Tracker in my Resource Library.
7. Create Your Own Schedule
The program is very flexible. It’s a 5 day a week program. You can do it any 5 days of the week you want, just follow the workout order. Want to workout Monday-Friday with weekends off, go for it! Want to put your rest day in the middle of the week, perfect! You pick your schedule. Just be sure to include some rest days. Your body needs them.
8. It Gets Easier
The more you do the boxing combos the easier it gets. It’s all about muscle memory. So keep at it, don’t give up!
9. Nutrition is Key
We’ve all heard “Abs are made in the kitchen.” If you’re looking for visible results you’ll need to follow a nutrition program.
The program comes with the Beachbody Guide to Nutrition. The guide includes calorie recommendations and healthy recipes.
If you’re really serious about your nutrition I highly suggest either Ultimate Portion Fix or 2B Mindset. I’ve tried both (follow the links to read about them).
If you’re not sure about which program would be best for you send me a message and I can help you choose.
10. Relax & Have Fun
Try not to get flustered and stressed out. Relax & have a little fun!
