We are in full on back to school craziness which means planning out our meals is so important. See how I meal plan around after school activities and what is on this week’s menu.
WHY MEAL PLAN
As a busy mom, trying to figure out what to feed your family for dinner is that last thing you want to worry about when you’re trying to get to parent meetings and practices. Without a plan we all know what usually happens, you end up in the drive-thru line or eating whatever packaged convenience foods may be on hand. Yes, those days will happen but when you take a little time to plan out your meals every week they won’t happen as often.
First, have a place where you write out your meals for the week. That may be a meal plan template like the ones available in the Resource Library, a simple sheet of paper, a file on your computer or a white board. Be sure to make note of any events on your meal plan. Knowing you have a meeting Tuesday night at 6:00 will prevent you from planning a meal that takes an hour to cook in the oven. Instead you can choose a meal that will cook in the crockpot while you’re away.
Here are some other benefits of meal planning:
- If you’re following a nutrition plan like Portion Fix or 2B Mindset writing out your meal plan will help you stay on track and get all your nutrients in.
- Taking the the time to plan out your meals for the week means one less thing to think about every day.
- When you’ve planned out your meals for the week you can make one trip to the grocery store and get everything you need.
