I’ve got to say meal planning by going back in my archives makes things so much easier. Check out what is on this week’s 80 Day Obsession Meal Plan and why planning ahead is so important.
Planning Ahead
I’m heading out of town this weekend. I plan to pack some snacks to take on the road with me in order to avoid the drive-thru or gas station junk food. Don’t get me wrong, I love some road trip snacks, but right now I’m trying to dial things in so I’m planning ahead.
One of the first things I do when I write my meal plan for the week is write down any activities we have going on. There are four reasons this is so important.
- First, you need to be sure you’ve got time to make the meal you’ve planned. If you have a late meeting or are running kids to practices, you’re not going to have time to make a meal that takes 45 minutes to cook. I usually reserve meals that take longer to cook for Sunday nights at our house, except when I’m returning from a trip.
- Second, when you don’t plan meals around your activities you’re going to end up wasting food. If you don’t have time to prepare the meals you’ve selected those ingredients will probably end up going bad and being tossed out. I don’t know about you but I really hate wasting food.
- Third, buying food you don’t have time to cook is a waste of time and money.
- Fourth, planning ahead will help you avoid those last minute trips through the drive-thru which honestly take more time than just packing something quick & easy to eat on the go.
