What is Carb Cycling?
Carb cycling is designed to help you temporarily shed weight quickly in a healthy manner. It should only be used when you need to drop weight for a specific event. The carb cycling plan can be used for 3 weeks max with a 3-month break before doing it again.
With carb cycling you are basically dropping water weight. Your muscles contain glycogen which contains water. When you reduce glycogen by reducing carbs you’re losing water weight. You do also lose a little fat. But when you go back to normal eating a lot of the weight you lose will come back. That’s why carb cycling is designed for short-term weight loss.

You may be surprised that on carb cycling days you actually eat a lot of food! A typical Portion Fix day consists of five different meals. On a carb cycling day you eat seven. The extra frequency is to keep your blood sugar from dipping in between meals.
I like to repeat all the same meals on carb cycling days. It makes meal planning and meal prepping so much easier. I make a big batch of each meal and portion it out. That way it’s ready to go the rest of the week. I can just heat and eat.
What to Eat When Carb Cycling
You may think ALL carbs are off the menu when carb cycling but you would be wrong. On carb depletion days you do still get a few servings of carbs. You want to pick carbs from the top 1/3 of the food list. Also, plan your menu with super clean foods. Choose fiber rich vegetables and really lean proteins.
Avoid dairy because it can cause bloating. Fruit is also off the menu due to high sugar content.
