The holidays can be a tempting time of year. There’s parties, holiday baking and friends & neighbors dropping by with delicious treats. The good news is you CAN enjoy all the seasonal drinks & sweets without letting yourself go. Learn how to stay on track during the holidays, plus grab my free Holiday Treat Tracker.
With all the festivities of the season it’s easy to let things get out of control. There’s cookies, candies, decadent desserts and delicious drinks.
First, let me say it’s perfectly fine to enjoy treats and drinks. If you follow Portion Fix you know you get three treat swaps a week. Yes, you can have treats and lose weight too.
And while cranberry cocktails and gingerbread cookies are oh so good, too much of a good thing can leave you feeling less than your best.
Holiday Eating Tips
Here are a few tips for staying on track over the holidays:
- Plan Ahead
- Watch Portion Sizes
- No Guilt
- Make Healthy Versions
- Keep Track
The trick to not gaining weight over the holidays is enjoying seasonal treats for special occasions and getting right back on track. Just because you ate a dessert doesn’t mean you need to give up all together until January.
If you’re going to a party plan ahead. Eat your healthy foods during the day. Maybe save some yellows if you follow Portion Fix. Then enjoy the party food, being mindful of portion sizes. The next morning go right back to your healthy eating habits.
The key is to just keep moving forward. Feeling guilty about what you ate or drank isn’t going to help anything. When you feel guilty you’re more likely to just give up all together. That will set you further back than anything. If you can’t enjoy treats & drinks without feeling guilty I suggest avoiding them altogether or finding healthier versions.
You can also make healthy versions of your favorite treats and beverages. The FIXATE cookbooks and the Monthly Fix (inside Nutrition+) have many healthy holiday recipes and cocktails including:
- Holiday Stuffed Squash
- Holiday Poached Turkey
- Gluten Free Stuffing
- Sweet Potato Casserole
- Holiday Sangria
- FIXATE Snickerdoodles
- Holiday Sugar Cookies
Keeping Track
The tricky thing about the holidays is that it’s not just one meal. It starts with Thanksgiving and extends all the way to the New Year.
If you do plan to indulge a little it’s perfectly okay. Enjoy your favorite treats. No guilt. A couple of treats is not going to wreck you. It’s when a couple becomes several that you may fall off track.
That’s why I created this Holiday Treat tracker to help you keep up with your holiday treats & drinks. Fill out the form below to download.
