Even though Thanksgiving is a bit later than usual I still can’t believe it’s already here. In fact, this year Thanksgiving falls on the latest date it can possibly be. Yes, I Googled it! I’m sharing our unique Thanksgiving Day menu as well as what we will be eating for our family feast along with a Printable Thanksgiving Menu.
I started a new Thanksgiving tradition a few years ago. You’ll notice on this week’s menu we don’t have our family feast until Friday. We’ve always celebrated Thanksgiving with my Mom’s side of the family on Friday so we could spend Thanksgiving Day with my Dad’s side of the family. I’ve always thought it was such a nice gesture for my Mom’s side of the family to be so flexible.
On Thanksgiving Day I still get up and watch the Macy’s Day Parade and relive my once in a lifetime performance as a Kilgore College Rangerette. Marching through the streets of New York in the red, white & blue was a childhood dream come true, even if I was soaking wet and freezing.
I still remember eating “Thanksgiving Dinner” at the hotel after the parade with my friend’s parents. The hotel served turkey burgers which back in those days weren’t even a thing like they are now.
A few years ago I started a new tradition of serving turkey burgers and sweet potato fries on Thanksgiving Day. I like to make my turkey burger on a wheat bun topped with lettuce and cranberry sauce. That way we still get a little Thanksgiving flavor but it’s different enough that we won’t be burned out on holiday food before we even have our family feast.
