We are two weeks away from vacation so I’m zeroed in on staying on plan, even with a work trip to Vegas. See my tips for staying on plan while traveling for work and what is on this week’s meal plan.
Work Travel & Staying On Plan
Traveling for work, business dinners and events can throw off your healthy eating. But the good news is, if you plan ahead you can stay on track without feeling awkward.
Here are a few tips for staying on track while traveling for work:
- Skip the Alcohol – Most trade shows I attend have a happy hour component where beer, wine & alcohol are served. Choose to stick with water or club soda. You may feel like everyone else in the room is drinking but that’s just not true. There are a variety of reasons people choose not to drink alcohol. You don’t owe anyone an explanation either. It’s none of their business. If someone asks, “What are you drinking?” It’s perfectly fine to say just water tonight and move the conversation on to another topic.
- Preview the Menu – If you’re going out for a business dinner and worried what you should order, take time to go online and look up the menu ahead of time. Pre-planning what you’re going to have will help you feel more confident in your choice and ensure you stay on-plan. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want like an extra side of veggies.
- Pack Snacks – Pack some healthy snacks for your trip. If it’s not possible to pack your snacks search out a deli, grocery store or convenience store that you can get healthy snacks from.
Remember, what you choose to eat & drink or not eat & drink is really nobody’s business. Don’t feel like you have to discuss your personal reasons for doing so. If you want to indulge, go for it. It’s your choice. But if you’ve got goals and want to stay on track I’m here to tell you it can certainly be done, even while traveling for work.
