After seeing my Blue Apron videos and review a friend of mine suggested I give HelloFresh a try! I’m always down for trying something new so I got online and signed up for my 1st shipment. I’m sharing my experience and giving you all the details in this HelloFresh Review.
Getting Started
The sign-up process was pretty easy. Select from the Classic, Veggie or Family plan and then depending on the plan choose how many people you are feeding and how many meals you would like.
*Be sure to use a promo code or link to save on your 1st box. Here’s one for 2 FREE meals: Get 2 free meals when you try HelloFresh! Valid for first time customers.
The Classic plan gives you the most options and allows you to choose which recipes you receive. I chose the Family plan and selected 2 meals per week. Next time I will probably select the Classic plan so I can chose the meals. If you follow my Weekly Menus you know I’m into planning out our meals.
The next step is to schedule your first delivery. You can preview what is on the menu for each week. With the family plan I was not able to select which meals we received so I tried to pick a week I would have time to try something new and that had meals that appealed to me the most. When you sign-up your deliveries are automatically set-up for the weeks following your first shipment. I liked that you can very easily cancel weeks, pause your account or deactivate.
HelloFresh Review- The Experience
Since I usually cook on Sunday I scheduled our box to be delivered on Saturday. It was such a crazy, busy day I ended up leaving the box at our door for quite awhile after it was delivered and didn’t get a chance to do an unboxing video.
The items were well packed and still very cold when I finally got to them. I love that the items are seasonal and pre-measured so there is no waste. I do wish that the produce was already washed and cut-up. That would make throwing together the meals even easier.
The first meal I cooked was the Mini Pork Meatloaves with Sauteed Red Cabbage & Sweet Potato Wedges. See the Live video on my Facebook Page.
The recipe card is very easy to follow. It breaks down the prep time and total time, ingredients, additional items you’ll need, nutrition information, and directions into 6 simple steps with photos.
This meal was delicious and everyone in the family enjoyed it. I will say the cabbage is not something I would normally put on the menu but it was actually really good. I even made it again as a Christmas side dish.
The second meal I cooked was the Toasted Rice Bowl with Shrimp, Sweet Corn and Red Bell Pepper.
Another great meal! It was delicious. So much so that I gobbled it up and forgot to take a picture. The family enjoyed it as well. I like that the peanuts were packaged separately so Blake could still enjoy the meal.
Overall Impression
I enjoyed my HelloFresh experience and will probably sign up for another box in the future. Next time I’ll probably go the Classic route for more options. I like how they give you menu previews a few weeks in advance so you can plan out the rest of your menu. I like how fresh and healthy the ingredients are and how the service lets me try foods and recipes I wouldn’t normally put on the menu.
