Thanks to a rainy weekend I finally cleaned out my bathroom drawers and cabinets. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. I have no idea why I’ve been keeping face lotions and make-up I’ve had for years (many 6+ years). Do I really want to put something that old on my face? Yuck! I did a little research and according to this article from Good Housekeeping beauty products do go bad and worst case scenario can cause infections due to bacteria. Use the Infographic I created to know when it’s time to toss your beauty products and the following tips to help with your bathroom organization.
Know When It’s Time to Toss
For the most part you want to measure how long you’ve had something from when you open it. You can use a sharpie to write your own expiration date on your products. My mom does that now after getting a rash from some old lotion. It’s also a good idea to clean your make-up brushes regularly with hot water and vinegar to kill bacteria.
Here are all the products I cleaned out of my cabinets over the weekend.
Here is how I organized what is left.
This is under my sink. I used shelf liner so I can easily wipe up leaks from any product bottles. I used boring white but they have all sorts of colors and designs you can use.
The drawer next to my sink is where I keep my toothbrush, Q-tips, cotton pads, Beautycounter creams, etc.
I use an acrylic organizer to keep things sorted since it’s easy to clean and won’t rust.
I used two larger acrylic organizers to organize my make up drawer.
I have a drawer for my brush, combs and hair accessories. I used another acrylic organizer to separate headbands, clips and rubber bands. Bobby Pins are pinned to a card for easy access.
Under my hair drawer I have a cabinet where I keep my mirror, hair products and a basket with make up and toiletry bags.
The green bag tucked next to the basket is an awesome jewelry organizer I picked up at Target. It has separate compartments for each piece so your necklaces don’t get tangled up and a place to put earrings.
I used more acrylic organizers stacked on top of each other to organize my jewelry.
The closet in our bathroom is where I keep extras of everything so I never run out.
There’s nothing worse than going to take a shower and not having any soap or shampoo.
